Harley Street Specialist Hospital is an 11,100 square foot, six floor hospital building located in the heart of the Harley Street medical district. We boast the following:

– A full operating suite, recovery bay and six recovery pods on the lower ground floor.

– A full operating suite, recovery bay with three beds and a private room on the ground floor.

– A minor ops suite, pharmacy and imaging suite on the first floor.

– Nine beautiful, newly refurbished consulting rooms throughout the hospital.

We offer day surgery across a range of specialties, predominantly orthopaedic, plastic, cosmetic and others.

We are currently recruiting for a full time Orthopaedic Lead within our theatre department.

Role Purpose:

  • Coordinate and actively assist in the management and organisation of care provision within the Operating Department while assisting the theatre manager in the management of the theatre team
  • Provide quality planned care for patients during their perioperative phase of care by ensuring all team members deliver quality patient care by providing appropriate clinical and managerial leadership for clinical team.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Co-ordinate the daily operational processes of the theatre department
  • Ensure compliance of the team to mandatory patient safety checks including WHO check, informed consent, patient’s identity, operative site against the supporting documentation, swab and needle counts and equipment checks.
  • Act as a role model and mentor to junior staff providing advice and support to others
  • Assemble, check and prepare the appropriate equipment, drugs and consumables for a range of operative procedures. Disseminate best practise principals to the team
  • Ensure that the team are fully inducted and trained with respect to use of equipment and processes and procedures and keep accurate training records
  • Assist in monitoring the patient’s condition throughout the procedure. Taking appropriate action to manage any arising complications through contingency planning.
  • Ensure that the team administer medications in accordance with the appropriate HSSH policy.
  • Promote effective communicate appropriately with the team and with others involved in the care of the patient
  • To ensure compliance with all mandatory training requirements
  • Monitor, order, receive and check stock items including consumables, equipment and drugs.
  • Take the lead role in the ordering and coordination of orthopaedic loan kit
  • Ensure any accidents or complaints are fully documented and that the appropriate manager is informed, where appropriate commence the investigation.
  • Complete all written documentation in a timely manner and to an acceptable level.
  • Communicate business decisions to staff and Consultants in a positive and supportive manner
  • Participate in the appraisal process, assisting in the cascade of the process.
  • Enable and encourage team members to expand and develop their own competencies within the patient’s perioperative phase of care
  • Participate in the employee selection process including the interviewing of potential candidates and induction of newly appointed staff.
  • Allocate work to others, which makes optimum use of colleague’s abilities while providing learning opportunities.
  • Actively contribute to changes in practice and policies when the need for change has arisen, which may follow an audit, complaint, or newly issued guidance.
  • Promote and ensure an environment conducive to the continuing prevention and control of infection for all staff, patients, and visitors.
  • Actively contribute in training programmes
  • Be aware of and comply with all infection prevention, control policies, and ensure best practice is maintained to ensure low infection rates.
  • To act as a link Nurse for a particular topic as agreed with the Theatre Manager.
  • To ensure Consultant Preference cards are up to date and liaise with consultants regarding new equipment and procedures.
  • To prepare in advance for operating lists, ensuring all loan kits, consumables etc are available.
  • To meet with company representatives as requested by the Theatre Manager and to assist in organising training with representatives
  • Play an active part in recording patient and staff accidents, incidents and complaints and investigates as required
