Responsibilities:
– Contribute as a Senior Scientist to the development of innovative solutions by undertaking research and development projects with a specific focus on molecular biology.
– Lead assigned R&D projects independently in all phases of the research process, from generating new ideas up to presenting results.
– Write technical reports and specifications, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as necessary.
– Contribute ideas and suggestions to improve standard laboratory techniques, improve protocols, processes, and equipment.
– Train and develop technicians and research scientists.
– Provide technical and scientific guidance for project/product and development as a subject matter expert.
– Communicate progress, deviations, and interim results to the project team.
Essential Requirements:
– PhD in Molecular Biology or related field.
– Experience in molecular biology.
– Critical thinking and problem-solving.
– Highly motivated with intellectual curiosity and rigour.
– Able to work as part of a team.
– Ability to plan own work, manage multiple tasks and deliver against deadlines.
– Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
– Ability to find, assimilate and evaluate the relevant literature and be able to integrate this into experimental design.
– Able to write scientific articles at a quality/level suitable for publication in peer reviewed journals.
Desirable Requirements:
Experience in one or more of the following:
– Drug screen development and small molecule screening
– Microbiology
– Anaerobic Microbiology
– Molecular Phytology of algae or cyanobacteria
Experience managing and training junior staff and technicians.
Experience of project management methods and tools.
The role is required to be based at their R&D and manufacturing facility in Abertillery, UK.
