Overview

As a media relations officer at NHS England and NHS Improvement you will be part of one of the country’s busiest and most high-profile media teams.

As the country continues to deal with the global coronavirus pandemic, the NHS will continue to be central to the country’s response, and our press officers have the opportunity to support this national effort, by helping to deliver public and staff communications.

You will play an important role in delivering media activity on a number of policy priorities for the organisation, finding and delivering impactful proactive stories about the development and delivery of the Long Term Plan as well as responding to emerging stories and issues to ensure that the NHS, its staff and their work are fairly represented, and the information that patients get through the media is accurate.

You will play an important role within the team, including stepping in to support or cover senior colleagues.

You will work closely with colleagues in other parts of the communications directorate, and in the wider organisation, to ensure that stories support the delivery of the NHS Long Term Plan, the Coronavirus response and wider communications priorities, and that they are seen and understood across different audiences.

First-hand knowledge of the NHS and the work of NHS England and NHS Improvement is an advantage but the most essential requirements are impeccable news judgement, strong writing skills, an excellent understanding of the media landscape and experience of dealing with national media.

You should also be able to demonstrable the ability to build trust with, and influence, senior internal stakeholders.

The post holder will be expected to take part in the on-call rota.
