I am working with a fantastic Public Sector Organisation based in Westminster who are looking for an experienced Management Accountant to start ASAP.

The contract on offer is fixed term, initially for 3 months, with the opportunity to go permanent thereafter, of extension of FTC for up to 12 months.

The role is full time, hybrid working and the salary starts at £42,000 per annum.

JOB PURPOSE

  • Support to the Head of Finance in all aspects of financial management, including month end reporting, financial budgeting and analysis
  • Manage purchase ledger, banking and cash management to ensure that suppliers are paid on time, and cash balances are monitored
  • Provide line management and leadership to the Finance Assistant
  • Lead on VAT and tax matters
  • Act as business partner to key cost centre managers
  • Contribute to the financial monitoring of programmes and provide management information to the Leadership Team
  • Support the co-ordination of business processes, knowledge management and quality assurance

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES

Financial Management

  • Heading the management accounts process monthly
  • Ensuring accurate income recognition for external fee income in particular
  • Preparing journal entries for accruals/prepayments and other adjustments accurately and in line with accounting policies
  • Coordinating fortnightly payment runs, posting payroll and expenses, and reviewing the work done by the Finance Assistant daily with regard to the bank reconciliations
  • Actively managing debtors and ensuring effective income collection
  • Reviewing and compiling VAT and statutory reporting periodically
  • Maintaining complete and accurate records for the purposes of audit trail
  • Act as super-user for systems, ensuring their smooth running, as well as passing this knowledge on to others through training
  • Continually review processes and systems to identify efficiencies and best practises
  • Supporting cost centre managers to ensure their understanding of reporting and data

Financial Information and Management Reporting

  • Management Accounts prepared monthly for the Senior Leadership Team and Board, including cash flow monitoring and reporting
  • Performing verification and reconciliation of financial information to ensure accuracy
  • Submitting statutory returns and surveys
  • Preparing budgetary and forecast information
  • Liaising with auditors (internal and external)

Line Management

  • Managing and leading the Finance Assistant in all aspects of their role

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • Fully (ideally) or Part qualified accountant (ACA, CIMA, ACCA) with strong financial accounting skills
  • Experience in handing all aspects of VAT/TAX
  • Self-starter with the ability to identify what requires doing and the enthusiasm to see tasks through
  • Experience working within a finance team for a small/medium size business.
  • Ability to interpret and analyse complex financial and budgetary information, and present findings in a clear and concise fashion.
  • High level of competence in MS Office (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Access, Outlook) and accountancy software.
  • Ability to work as part of a team with a flexible approach in order to adapt to changing working requirements.
