A unique opportunity has arisen for a number of Housing Officers to join our 25-bed supported housing services, based in Romford in the London Borough of Haveringto help deliver a stable and effective housing management services. The service provides specialist housing, programmes and support services in the community for rough sleepers, homeless or those at risk of homelessness and single people.
About the role:
Housing Officers will be expected to carry out housing management tasks including health and safety inspections, arrears management, dealing with breaches of tenancy and reporting of maintenance issues, as well as providing day to day support and advice for supported housing tenancies, including advising support staff and visiting tenants.
To be successful in this role, you will have great communication and engagement skills, with the maturity to work within a framework of recovery, building confidence, self-esteem, hope and positive coping skills. You will have direct experience working in a supported housing or similar environment with strong knowledge of all aspects within housing management.
You will be required to work 37.5 hours per week, in a shift pattern including weekends, bank holidays, so you’ll need to be flexible with the hours you are able to work.

Key Responsibilities:
- Provide support and advice for supported housing tenancies, including advising support staff and visiting tenants
- Providing advice, support, and action regarding non-straightforward Housing Benefit and Welfare Benefit issues. This includes appeals and overpayments
- Regular Health & Safety inspections (incl. fire drills and inspections), and risk assessments and ensuring that health and safety and fire regulations/policies are adhered to. Respond efficiently to both urgent & routine health and safety matters and/or prioritise other urgent housing management functions as directed by the senior management team
- Ensure that all properties meet the contractual agreements with landlords and housing associations
- Regular liaison with landlords including Housing Associations
- Prepare and issue Licence Agreements/Assured Shorthold Tenancies and complete move in paperwork ensuring clients fully understand their rights and responsibilities as well as the consequences of not complying with the terms of their residence/tenure
- To arrange Move In dates for prospective residents through liaison with Support staff
- Weekly monitoring of arrears and the setting up of rent repayment plans
Experience Required:
- Proven experience of property management and delivering housing management services
- Experience working in supported housing or homelessness, mental health, substance misuse, offending or other related field
- Knowledge and understanding of the housing and support needs of homeless people, and the ability to manage complex and difficult situations
- Working knowledge of Health and Safety in an accommodation setting
- Experience of managing external contractors and the quality of their work
- Good knowledge of safeguarding and a commitment to reporting safeguarding concerns in line with company policy
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office software and IT systems
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, active listening and presentation skills, with an ability to relate to a wide range of audiences
