Overview

What the role entails

· Leading the Golborne Community Champions Project, part of a Public Heath-commissioned Bi-Borough volunteering programme aimed at improving health and wellbeing of local people. It does this by engaging local people as volunteers to help, support, motivate and encourage others in the community to participate in activities and engage with local services (www.communitychampionsuk.org/[DLW1])

· Working as part of the Community Development Team at the Venture Community Association (www.venturecentre.org.uk), your role will be to develop and sustain new, engaging and impactful activities, create imaginative campaigns around the health and wellbeing issues that particularly affect local people and to ensure participation of local residents in project activities [DLW2]

· Recruiting, managing and motivating a team of Community and Maternity Champion volunteers, ensuring they are drawn widely from the community and supporting them in their personal and professional development

· As the project lead, you will be responsible for the performance, management, monitoring and reporting of outcomes

· Working in close collaboration with the Community Development Lead and the Children’s Development Lead to collaborate on the development of an integrated programme of activities across the whole organisation.

· You will also contribute to the management of the VCA as a member of the Leadership and Development Team and you will be an integral part of ensuring the Venture Centre is a welcoming, well run and inspiring place for everyone in our local community

What you will be expected to achieve

· Success in this role will be the improvement of mental and physical health of individuals who participate in the activities you have created.

· It is also about creating opportunities for people to develop their skills through volunteering and enabling people to become active in making a difference in their communities.

· Success will also be the improvement of local services, through the insight and lived experience that Community and Maternity Champions can provide to service providers and commissioners

Knowledge and experience you will need to bring

· How to work alongside a diverse community, harnessing their creativity to co-develop activities; how to reach out to those who don’t use support services and how to make the Community Champions project and the Venture Centre the heart of all the communities we work with.

· How to understand demographic and health information and apply it to developing services and the professional curiosity and motivation to challenge and develop new ways of linking people to the support they need

· How to lead and motivate a team of staff and volunteers; how to bring in new volunteers and how to make the Venture Centre a great place to work as well as a place that puts the service user at the heart of all it does.
