Our client, a world class education provider is seeking to appoint a permanent Financial Accountant to join their Finance Directorate.

Education, Qualifications & Experience:

  • Qualified to Degree level
  • Progressing towards an accountancy qualification – CA, ACA, CPFA, CIMA, ACCA
  • Experience of working within a similar environment (College or University desired)
  • Competent in the use of relevant IT packages
  • Proven relevant experience of financial accounting which will have been acquired over a number of years, with a basic understanding of the relevant theory
  • Analytical problem-solving skills
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrable excellent customer service
  • Demonstrable ability to work quickly, flexibly and accurately in a dynamic, changing and pressured environment
  • Demonstrable professional and proactive approach

Purpose of the role

The purpose of the role is to perform financials accounting tasks that ensure financial integrity and control exists over financial transactions, the general ledger and the financial statements. The role holder will work with the other financial accountant as team and provide cover as appropriate.

Summary of Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure financial transactions are recorded appropriately to comply with relevant accounting standards, relevant legislation and internal policies.
  • Prepare journals for posting to the general ledger.
  • Prepare financial reconciliations to an agreed standard and agreed timetable. Escalate issues to senior management as appropriate.
  • Prepare intercompany transactions.
  • Produce the balance sheet for review and incorporation into the management accounts.
  • Forecast balance sheet for inclusion in budgeting and forecasting process.
  • Support accounting requirements for endowment funds, donations and investments.
  • Support the timely production of the statutory accounts/financial statements/notes ensuring produced in line with accounting standards, internal policies and relevant legislation.
  • Liaise with the internal/external auditors, manage queries and issues in a timely manner.
  • Perform ad-hoc investigations into financial accounting matters.
  • Maintain an accurate fixed asset register, ensure fixed assets and associated depreciation are accurately accounted for.
  • Work with the management to ensure a suite of critical controls are developed, operationalised and monitored.
  • Input into reports and papers on accounting matters for presentation at senior governance meetings.
  • The role holder will have frequent interaction with staff at all levels, including: Head of Financial Accounting & Operations, Senior Financial Accountant and Key Finance Office staff
  • Continue to make improvements to the efficiency and effectiveness of the financial accounting processes and controls.
  • Deliver changes to and embed processes that support the new ERP system.
