A rare and exciting opportunity has become available to join our team.

Manchester City Council works with an extensive range of partners to deliver an annual programme of inclusive and high quality events that ranges from community or civic gatherings to major national and international festivals, differentiating its support and investment into events that are aimed principally at supporting communities and animating the city and those which generate significant economic value and profile for the city through the development of the visitor economy.

The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic will expose new challenges as well as new opportunities for the event sector in the years ahead and the development and delivery of a vibrant and diverse annual events programme has an important role to play in helping to support the economic and cultural recovery of the city as well as ensuring we can continue to contribute to the Our Manchester strategy outcome of making Manchester a world leading place for sport, leisure and culture by 2025. We are looking to recruit an Events Programme Manager who will be responsible for the management of Manchester’s annual, city-wide, partnership led events programme.

As an experienced manager within the events sector, you will have a proven track record of the planning, promotion, delivery and evaluation of a range of events and of building strong collaborative relationships with commercial producers and promoters, sports agencies, cultural practitioners, third sector organisations and community groups, as well as key statutory agencies and related bodies.

Line managing a small, diverse team of skilled and motivated colleagues, you will need to be accomplished at maximising the output of others, able to demonstrate a track record in using your problem solving and analytical skills to find creative solutions to operational challenges, knowledgeable of the regulatory and legislative framework that surrounds events, skilled at communicating persuasively with senior management and elected members, experienced in working in a complex public policy environment on politically sensitive issues and initiatives and proficient at balancing the statutory, civic and community responsibilities of a Local Authority against the imperative to maximise commercial income from third party events.

Manchester City Council is committed to giving fair support to members of the Armed Forces and veterans, whilst recognising and remembering the sacrifices they have made. The aim of The Armed Forces Covenant is to ensure that the Armed Forces and veterans are not disadvantaged, when applying for vacancies with Manchester City Council. Armed Forces and veterans will be guaranteed an interview where they meet the Minimum requirements for the role.

Manchester City Council values equality and works to provide a fair and inclusive environment for a workforce that is as diverse as the communities it serves. We want to further increase the diversity of our workforce, in particular the number of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic staff and disabled staff at all levels of the Council. This advert is open to all applicants, and we would particularly welcome applications from candidates identifying with one or both of those characteristics.
