Person specification
You’ll be an energetic and highly motivated individual, with experience in recording studios, live music and facilities management, and have the knowledge and expertise to support the Estates & Facilities Manager in ensuring BIMM Manchester’s estate is fully functioning, health and safety compliant, and fit for purpose. You’ll need to be a team player who is used to working to tight deadlines and dedicated to maintaining an environment where staff and students alike are able to meet exacting standards of educational excellence. The role will entail interaction with other BIMM college site teams to ensure parity of experience and delivery.
Good communication, planning, organisation, and time management abilities are essential.
Essential Criteria
•Excellent timekeeping and reliability
•Good time management and prioritisation skills
•Experience with musical equipment including drum kits, guitars, amplifiers and microphones
•Experience with recording studio equipment
•Experience with music production software
•Health and Safety awareness
Desirable Criteria
•A Music Production related qualification
• Ideally a full clean Driving Licence
Key Accountabilities
The post holder will be required to meet the listed accountabilities; however these may change in line with the needs of the college.
Recording Studio & Mac Suite
a)Manage the Recording Studio rooms and associated equipment to ensure 100% availability of the resources.
b)Induct the students in how to use the recording studio safely and effectively.
c)Support students in using the Recording Studio and Mac Suite.
d)Support the BIMM Manchester tutors in using the Recording Studio and Mac Suite.
e)Ensure the safe powering up and down of equipment at the start and end of each day.
f)Plan and complete regular scheduled maintenance of the equipment to ensure zero downtime.
g)Report necessary repairs of any equipment as required to the Estates & Facilities Manager, ensuring alternative equipment is in place until a repair is complete.
Facilities – Equipment
a)Ensuring that all teaching rooms are laid out correctly and have the requested and necessary equipment to allow the smooth running of the day’s lessons.
b)Being reactive to the tutor’s equipment requirements to help ensure excellence of teaching delivery.
c)Checking equipment regularly to ensure all is perfectly safe and in good working order.
d)Working with the Estates & Facilities Manager to maintain the equipment asset list for the BIMM site and reporting equipment faults promptly.
e)Making recommendations for new or updated equipment as appropriate.
Estates – Security
a)Ensuring that all site users adhere to BIMM’s general security procedures.
b)Responsibility as required for opening the building in the morning and/or closing it at the end of each day (subject to agreed working hours)
c)Responsibility as required for the setting and deactivating of the security alarm for the relevant BIMM site. It will also be the post holder’s responsibility to ensure that the building is secure prior to the alarm being set at night:
i.Check that all windows are closed;
ii.Check that all doors are locked;
iii.Check that all equipment is secure and switched off;
iv.Check that all lights are off and that the air conditioning system is switched off.
Estates – General
a)Working with the Estates and Facilities teams to be responsive to Education Managers, Course Leaders, Events team, Student Services team and Tutors to ensure all curricular and extra-curricular (including in-house rehearsals, gig auditions, showcases etc.) student activity is managed effectively for the optimum student experience
b)Assisting with setting up and provision of technical support for external events where required
c)Assisting the Estates & Facilities Manager as required
d)Managing student behaviour both on site, off site and in the immediate environs of the college
e)Logging and reporting building faults
f)Working with the Estates & Facilities Manager to undertake a suitable rolling programme of repairs, improvements and refurbishments
Estates – Cleaning
a)Checking that the building is clean and tidy before the arrival of staff and students and ensuring the environment is monitored throughout the day
b)Checking that the contract cleaner’s work is carried out to an acceptable standard and reporting any issues arising to the Estates & Facilities Manager
c)Monitoring the cleanliness of the toilets, ensuring toilet paper is accessible and reporting any plumbing or sanitation problems immediately to the Estates & Facilities Manager
d)Emptying the bins and vacuuming the reception if required on the days when the cleaners are not contracted to come in
e)Ensure that the area directly outside of the entrance to BIMM is clean and litter free
Health and Safety
a)Be fully aware of all BIMM’s Health and Safety regulations and maintain constant vigilance that these are adhered to by staff and students
b)Reporting non-compliance to the Estates & Facilities Manager
