In a nutshell

Credit Risk Modelling manage the Banks credit models for all lending products, these include application and behaviour scorecards as well as the IFRS9 provision models. Application / behaviour scorecards are used for credit assessment at point of application and throughout the account lifecycle. The IFRS9 models are mainly used for bad debt provisioning purposes to estimate the amount of bad debt that we will experience, now and in the future.

What you need to do

  • Design, build and implement appropriate application and customer models
  • Engage and partner with all stakeholders within the project life cycle; Deliver business cases; Drive forward requirements gathering process; Prepare detailed requirements documentation; Be accountable for User Acceptance Testing
  • Providing technical advice and consultancy on statistical modelling techniques within the team and to other areas within the group where appropriate
  • Manage at least 1 Analyst / Senior Analyst, building on their skills to ensure that the Credit Risk modelling long term strategy can be delivered
  • Be accountable for projects that facilitate testing, implementation and tracking of scoring systems
  • Control the testing and quality of scoring systems to ensure that implementation meets required standards
  • Develop efficient and effective suite of Scorecard Monitoring packs to ensure the current models are performing in line with expectations, recommending actions when models are not in line with expectations
  • Develop and maintain a network of external contacts within the risk industry to ensure that SB understands all the latest credit risk model tools / techniques in the market place
  • Maintain relationships with Credit Reference Agencies and other Third Party software/service providers, identifying solutions which will improve SB Credit Risk capability
  • Ensure the principals of Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) and Conduct Risk are at the forefront of our credit risk strategies
  • Influence across the business to ensure the successful approval of statistical models within existing and proposed risk systems, consistently delivering to industry leading standards, on time and within budget
  • Ensure collaboration between the team and the internal business areas and external consultants in the design of models or risk systems. Control and validate the work of external suppliers and consultants, agreeing development plans and specifications.
  • What you need to know and show

  • Highly numerate with a degree in a mathematical/statistical/engineering discipline.
  • Degree in a relevant numerate, statistical-based subject.
  • Expert knowledge of modern risk management techniques and scoring systems and their use within the credit industry.
  • Significant experience in the development of statistical modelling solutions within Retail Credit Risk.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of consumer lending products and markets. Experience with a well-regarded credit business is highly desirable.
  • Experience in the use of computer based statistical packages, model design and development software tools, specifically modelling tools (SAS Stat, Enterprise Miner etc.). Ideally SAS certified to advanced level.
  • Ability to work accurately to tight timescales.
  • Ability to communicate and negotiate successfully with colleagues at all levels up to and including Executive level and build effective working relationships across the business (internal and external).
  • Enthusiastically embraces change and understands the project management cycle.
  • Good problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in the financial services industry.
  • Well organised and able to prioritise workload in line with tight deadlines and work effectively under pressure
  • Excellent team player with ability to working closely with others to deliver results
  • Customer focused
  • Proven track record of working on own initiative, with the ability to introduce fresh thinking to the role and the wider team.
