Job Summary

Please note: This job is based full-time at DMRC Stanford Hall, Nottinghamshire.

The ‘ADVANCE’ (ArmeD SerVices TrAuma RehabilitatioN OutComE) Study is a large, complex and fully funded, prospective cohort study of the long-term medical and psychosocial outcomes of UK Servicemen who were seriously injured in the conflict in Afghanistan.

Approximately 600 seriously injured men and an equal number of reference personnel have been recruited and will be followed regularly for at least 20 years. ADVANCE is run jointly by Imperial College, London, Kings College London and the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Service (DMRC) at Stanford Hall, Leicestershire.

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the ADVANCE team for a motivated individual with excellent interpersonal skills and a keen interest in clinical research who wants to make a difference.

You will join a team of research nurses and healthcare assistants in collecting clinical data from our study participants in a clinical setting.

Experience of working in a clinical setting is required but it will not be essential to be proficient in all the clinical investigations performed. Initially under supervision, you will undertake a range of clinical tests, including lung function assessment, audiology, heart function tests and blood sampling. In time, you will be expected to work independently as part of the team.

More information on the ADVANCE Study can be found on the Study’s website.

We value diversity and are committed to equality of opportunity. We welcome applications from everyone but, as staff from ethnically diverse backgrounds are underrepresented within this field, we would encourage applications from individuals who are black or from minority ethnic groups.

The post is located at the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre (DMRC), Stanford Hall, Nottinghamshire.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Undertaking training and completing assessments in performing clinical investigations including biometric measurements, venepuncture, hearing assessments, lung function tests and cardiac tests.

  • Undertaking laboratory skills training such as handling, identifying, pipetting, storage, transfer and tracking of biological samples.

  • Providing support and assistance to the clinical team as required.
  • Reporting deviations and concerns appropriately.
  • Contributing to safe and accurate data management with back-up and storage of clinical data.
