As an Associate Engineer, youll be part of one of our Engineering squads, bringing a foundational perspective to the technology were building and running. Using architectural and engineering principles and operating frameworks, along with your technical craft, curiosity and experimentation, youll contribute to new and improved tech solutions and support in delivering for our customers.

We use a variety of tech here and you need to be willing to pick up new tools and techniques. Wed also like you to be yourself – analytical, curious and unafraid to challenge the status quo. Youll have a customer centric mindset and a passion for finding creative ways to solve problems, contributing as a progressive member of the engineering community.

More about the role

  • Youll learn, build and design squad owned services using specific technologies and languages such as .NET and Kubernetes. 
  • Youll learn and implement specific cloud technologies such as AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform
  • Youll support the design of services and internal frameworks that enhance Sainsburys capability
  • Engineering throughout the whole product lifecycle, including decommissioning, with guidance
  • Supporting the team in making the best use of our OPEX and CAPEX budget
  • Understanding and supporting the delivery of the product technical roadmap
  • More about you

  • Possess programming language expertise in one or more languages in our ecosystem, either functional like or object orientated such as Kotlin, Python, JavaScript, Scala or CSharp
  • Understanding of foundations of engineering practice, including knowledge of architectural engineering principles
  • Knowledge of software design, cloud and CI/CD and any relevant hardware
  • Advocacy of Agile/lean delivery methodologies
  • A passion for delivering solutions to customers
  • Willingness to take responsibility for supporting yourself and your peers as you progress through a plan
  • Keen to continuously enhance your knowledge and evidence curiosity in emerging tech
