ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Area Sales Manager (ASM) plays a critical role ensuring the successful implementation and execution of sales plans and programs in the Independent channel. The ASM, develops, and leads a team of Business Development Manager’s in key regions of London. Specific responsibilities include, motivate and develop BDM’s, sell in and implementation of account plans, product listings, management and implementation of trade incentives, training programs and agency staff. Performance in this role will be measured primarily by development of BDM’s, pipeline management, quality execution at store level, achievement of product listings and distribution volume, sales growth and share of mind/voice of retail partners. This role is ideal for someone currently working as a team leader or Area Sales Manager, with experience leading an external field-based team looking for their next step or a wider scope role, ideally with experience within the drinks, tobacco, electrical or other FMCG category looking for their next challenge. This role reports to the Regional Sales Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Trade program sell in based on ROI assessments and ongoing retailer compliance to the program. 
  • Area specific plan with a clear plan to grow the area via forecasting and develop an activation plan for your overall area and coach the BDM to build a plan on a smaller scale to help you reach the company objectives. 
  • Set stretching goals with your team and work with your manager to set a clear strategy to achieve those goals. 
  • Coach and grow your team, spending 4 days a week in trade
  • Establishing, maintaining, and expanding your customer base and distribution of key products within your defined area
  • Not afraid to challenge your team and support areas of weakness 
  • Increasing business opportunities through various routes to market
  • Monitoring your team’s performance and motivating and supporting them to reach targets
  • Developing sales strategies and setting goals to work in line with your area goals

  • Supporting customer relationships through a blend of BDM coaching and face to face retailer engagement
  • Collecting customer feedback and market research, feeding back with a solution mindset to your manager 
  • Keeping up to date with new products and competitor trends
  • identify and win new business, develop joint business plans, to drive sales and ROI for the area
  • Manage the effective deployment, resourcing and implementation of merchandising agreements, trade incentive schemes and training program
  • PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 2 years’ experience managing or supporting a field sales team
  • You are already a successful sales professional and people manager who has a proven track record of growing both people and is passionate about sales and targets. You are someone that consistently achieves your KPIs and works well under pressure.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the UK convenience and FMCG sector a benefit
  • A full UK driving license is required for this role
  • Excellent sales, communication, and negotiation skills
  • Good business sense
  • Persuasive and adaptable presenter – ability to positively influence different audiences
  • The ability to motivate and lead a team
  • Good planning and organisational skills
  • The ability to work calmly under pressure
  • Good IT, and report writing skills
  • Ability to present back key findings/challenges with a solution mindset
