Our client, a leading manufacturer based in Chippenham, are currently seeking to add multiple Deputy Shift Managers to their Leadership Team, various shifts available:

  • CONTINENTAL: 4 on – 4 off (06:00 – 18:00)
  • DAYS:     Monday – Friday 08:00-16:30.
  • NIGHTS: Monday – Friday 18:00-03:00.
  • LATES:   Monday –  Friday 14:00-22:00.

Reporting into the Production Manager, our client is looking for Deputy Managers with great leadership skills. Previous experience desirable, however will look to speak with Team Leaders/Supervisors who are looking to take the next step in their career.

Job Summary:

  • Capable of leading a team effectively, by demonstrating the ability to cope well under pressure and with multiple demands. Supervise the day to day running of the department to ensure the KPI’s are always met.
  • To cover the day-to-day running of the department, ensuring it runs efficiently, to agreed parameters.
  • Attainment to plan; Utilisation (best practice), quality, labour control, waste control, production downtime, utility usage, stock control and other measurements of efficiency.
  • Products made must be produced to the agreed quality specification whilst ensuring that all staff are trained to produce quality products within the company’s health and safety rules and guidelines.
  • Follow the lean thinking principles and make suggestions for improvement so that better ways of doing jobs are identified.
  • Carry out probationary review meetings with all new starters during their first 3 months of employment.
  • Authorising of holidays and wages ensuring that working hours are controlled and do not exceed 60 hrs per week for any individual as specified in the ETI base code.  Should there be any contravention immediate corrective action must be taken.
  • To develop a working environment that is free from intimidation, harassment, and bullying
  • To promote a culture of dignity and respect amongst staff.

Key Tasks:

Labour Utilisation: Agree labour with Production Manager and ensure the correct labour is necessary to hit agreed targets as agreed.

Team Development: Ensure that the team are trained to agreed standards taking into consideration risk assessments, task procedures, quality standards and health & safety and that the training is signed off and filed correctly as a true record that the employee is competent to perform the task.

Staff Performance: To be able to motivate the team performance to ensure that daily orders are met without jeopardising quality and safety. To be able to use the corrective tools of the disciplinary procedure in a formal environment to correct poor performance, breaches of rules etc. that disrupt the motivation of the team.

Waste Control: Ensure that the movement of all stocks into and out of the departments is recorded including all by product and waste in line with the company procedures; dealing with any variances and if necessary, putting corrective measures in place. Also using measurements to reduce the creation of waste and by products where necessary.

Utilisation: Be able to track product yield and gather data. Also being able to interpret that data and deal with non-conformances through investigation and root cause techniques.

Service & Quality: Ensuring all orders are completed to the customer’s satisfaction, by the correct quality specification in the most cost-efficient method.

Efficiency: Ensuring that the department runs in an efficient manner through:

The tracking of bottlenecks within the line and the overcoming of these hurdles.

Monitoring continual progress by line to ensure daily targets are met and thus be able to highlight any problem areas that may affect productivity quickly.

By ensuring the delivery of all materials to the line are on time and to the standard required.

Team development: To mentor and coach your Supervisors, Lead Operators and Team Members to develop a multi-disciplined team who can deliver the product to the standards required. To assist with annual appraisals as a key tool that must be used as part of your team’s assessment and development as well as the continual development of the Supervisors and team members.

Departmental Development: To have an open and honest relationship with the Senior Team Manager, to be able to discuss problems and concerns, roadblocks, and new ideas in a positive manner to develop and grow both yourself, the department and the business and be able to benchmark and discuss best practice with your peer group at the site.

Health & Safety and the Environment: To ensure that all activity in your area is directed under the guidelines of the Health & Safety Executive and the Environmental Agency. To play your part in the monthly SHE meetings on site as directed by the Group Health and Safety manager and all assigned actions dealt with in a prompt manner. To manage health and safety of the area, people, and methods of work.  Carry out risk assessments and actions, within the framework of the Company Health and Safety Policy. To take an active interest in Health & Safety to promote good practice across the site.

GMP: To maintain all Production areas to a high standard of cleanliness and meet all the procedural requirements that are expected of you and your team.

Hours of work: will vary depending on the shift that is most suitable to you.

Remuneration Package:

Basic salary of £30,000 – £32,000 pa.
